TSL Creates virtual UK/US link for LD

The pandemic has provided us with some challenging opportunities to adapt and overcome restrictions we hadn’t previously imagined! Unable to travel to the USA, Magic Mike Live lighting designer Philip Gladwell and Programmer Liam Jones approached TSL to provide them with a solution to be as close to being in Vegas as possible, whilst staying firmly in England.

TSL provided a custom control solution for the duo from our pre visualisation suite which included 2 PTZ camera feeds to the theatre in the Sahara Las Vegas (independently controllable from London) and a direct link into the casino’s comms system which allowed Gladwell and Jones to communicate with the in-house team in near real-time.

Initially nervous that he would have to use a PC-based interface for several weeks’ of overnight programming in an already challenging environment, TSL were able to provide a dedicated control system to allow Liam Jones to use an ETC EOS Ti in London that was sessioned with the Gio@5 console in the venue, with a link achieving such low latency that Timecode could easily be streamed back and forth between the two consoles.

With full programming ability, comms, video link and audio feeds, the team were able to successfully program the rehearsals and opening performances of Magic Mike Live with ease, TSL having taken care of the complex elements of what could have been a very challenging situation.

LD Philip Gladwell commented “The TSL pre-visualisation facility and our setup allowed us to actively be part of the tech in Las Vegas. TSL were very welcoming and worked really hard to help us set up the link with Las Vegas at very short notice, Adam & Loz were incredibly committed to making a success of our predicament. “
