Cables Department – Team Leader

The Role:

Working within TSL’s Operations Team, the Team Leader plays a vital hands-on role in the day-to-day operation of one of our warehouse departments. Based at our Basingstoke warehouse, you will be responsible for supervising and leading a team of Warehouse Technicians, ensuring efficient throughput, maintaining TSL’s high quality standards, and supporting the Department Manager in the smooth running of the department. This is a varied, physical role that suits someone who leads by example, takes pride in the standard of their work, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership

  • Supervise and motivate the team to achieve operational goals and deadlines.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership qualities, such as accountability, integrity, and a positive attitude. This willinspire your team and set a positive example for the department head.
  • Delegate tasks effectively and provide clear guidance and support.
  • Ensure staff are aware of and have access to all relevant information to their assigned tasks.
  • Provide performance feedback to the department manager prior to teams 1:1 catch ups.
  • Identify training needs and report to the department manager.
  • Supervise staff to ensure that all work areas are kept clean, tidy and efficiently organised.

In the absence of the Department Manager

  • Assume responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the department.
  • Make critical decisions and solve problems independently.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Attend Department Manager meetings in the absence of the Department Manager.

Operational Excellence

  • Support the daily operations of the department, including receiving, storing, and shipping equipment.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and procedures, including checking prepped equipment before it leaves the department for dispatch.
  • Checking-in of equipment returned from hire, against the rental system. Log and report any shortages or
    damages.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate delivery to the repair team as needed.

Customer Service

  • Interact with Freelancers and Customers in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Resolve customer inquiries and complaints promptly and efficiently.

Departmental Support

  • Assist the Department Manager in developing and implementing departmental changes and improvements.
  • Communicate any operational issues to the Department Manager and resolve where possible.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to the company’s Health and Safety Policy at all times, including safe manual handling practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, rules, procedures, and obligations.

Representing TSL

  • Clients, suppliers, and drivers regularly visit the warehouse. It is essential that you represent TSL and its
    reputation to the highest standard at all times.
  • Conduct yourself in a professional and courteous manner around clients and visitors at all times.
  • Maintain a good standard of personal appearance and presentation.
  • A cheerful demeanour, engaging personality, and sense of humour would be a huge advantage in this role.

Skills & Qualities Required

Essential

  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience, with the ability to motivate and direct a team in a fast-paced
    environment.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise workload and keep the team
    on track during busy periods.
  • Strong spoken English and interpersonal skills for effective communication with colleagues, clients, and
    visitors.
  • Practical, hands-on ability with the confidence to lead by example on the warehouse floor.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy, with an understanding of what high-quality equipment
    preparation looks like.
  • Sound problem-solving and decision-making ability, capable of resolving day-to-day issues without always
    referring upward.
  • Flexible and adaptable; able to respond to changes in workload, hours, and schedules at short notice.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, capable of working on own initiative as well as supporting and directing others.
  • Good IT literacy, preferably with working knowledge of Google Drive.
  • Physically fit and able to undertake regular manual handling of heavy and bulky equipment.

Desirable

  • Previous experience with professional lighting, audio, rigging, or technical event equipment.
  • Experience in a warehouse, rental house, or live events environment.
  • Electrical or electronics knowledge and/or qualifications.
  • Valid forklift truck licence (training can be provided for the right candidate).
  • An interest in or passion for the live events and entertainment industry.
