HR Manager

Gatwick / Basingstoke

  • Starting Salary - Negotiable, dependent on experience

  • Part Time – up to 25 hours per week, flexible pattern to be arranged to suit candidate

  • Location –  Gatwick and Basingstoke  - based at Gatwick but regular travel to Basingstoke is essential

We are looking for an experienced HR Manager with a positive, flexible and proactive approach to assist with the efficient and effective running of our business. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic company that puts quality at the forefront of everything that it does, and build the HR function.

Job Overview

The HR Manager will be responsible for managing the HR function within TSL Lighting at both the Gatwick and Basingstoke locations. They will, alongside the Directors and Head of HR, implement the HR strategy to support the business objectives and enhance the culture of the company.

They will focus on recruitment, induction, performance management, training and development and will work closely with all departments and senior management to ensure the appropriate levels of HR support and expertise are provided to the business.

Reporting to the Directors, the HR Manager will also have the support of the Head of HR, who works on a consultancy basis.

Core roles and responsibilities

Recruitment and Retention:

  • Manages cost effective recruitment through proactively sourcing candidates directly via social media

  • Organises all interviews, creating interview packs for those interviewing

  • Seeks references, prepares offer packs and contracts for new starters

  • Oversees induction plans and sets up new starters for day one and oversees their settling in period

  • Works with line managers to achieve a retention rate of 80%

  • Conducts interviews to identify areas of improvement which impact retention

  • Manages any students on work experience

Training and Development:

  • Works in collaboration with managers to identify training needs and ensure it is delivered in a timely manner i.e. not letting licenses lapse

  • Identifies and works with external training providers to ensure quality of delivery and value for money

  • Records all training activity, keeping all certificates on file ready for use

  • Manages all staff training and ensures all training costs are tracked and within budget

Performance Management

  • Advises managers on employee relation issues and assists with disciplinary and capability situations when they arise, seeking legal advice when necessary

Reward and Recognition

  • Oversees employee pay increases and promotions and prepares all the necessary paperwork

  • Ensures that mid term and end of probation reviews are held at the appropriate time and produces end of probation paperwork

  • Develops job descriptions for new roles and reviews and amends current ones when required

  • People Management

  • Creates a supportive learning culture

  • Provides guidance and coaching to Directors/Managers to develop the teams HR acumen

Business Management

  • Demonstrates an understanding of the overall business strategy and translates this into day-to-day operations

  • Inputs on the development and implements the HR business plan and delivers on the action plan

  • Actively contributes and participates in management meetings as required

Level of experience

  • Experienced HR professional

Skills and qualifications required

  • Graduate calibre

  • CIPD qualified or part qualified

  • Excellent working knowledge of employment law

  • Excellent people skills

  • Discreet and empathetic

  • Approachable

  • Good IT skills

  • Flexible

Hire Coordinator

Gatwick / S London Area

TSL provide lighting and rigging equipment and services to the Live Event, Concert Touring, Corporate, Education & Trade Rental markets.  The business has a diverse range of customers, who value the high quality and standards that we work to.  The company continues to grow and we now have an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to join our hiredesk team.

As a member of a small team, this role is a combination of handling hire enquiries on the phone and via email as well as monitoring and coordinating sub hire to cover any equipment shortages across the company. Key responsibilities will involve handling and developing customer relationships and managing the day to day requirements of a busy hiredesk. Reporting directly to the hire manager, you will have influence into the equipment investments and opportunities that present themselves. Your experience and knowledge will be a hugely valuable contribution and support to other team members.

Project Manager / Account Manager

Gatwick / S London Area

TSL provide lighting and rigging equipment and services to the Live Event, Concert Touring, Corporate and Trade-Rental markets.  The business has a diverse range of customers, who value the high quality and standards that we work to.  The company continues to grow and we now have an exciting opportunity for an established and experienced professional to join our projects team.

As a member of a small team, this role is a combination of client handling/account management and hands-on project management. Key responsibilities will involve handling customer relationships and major projects working closely with our freelance LD and production industry clients. Reporting directly to the MD, you will have influence into the equipment investments and opportunities that present themselves. Your experience and knowledge will be a hugely valuable contribution and support to other team members.

You will be an established figure within the production/rental industry and have a good range of professional contacts and experience.  You will have an in-depth working knowledge of current lighting and rigging equipment and best practice in a range of live events and productions, particularly in our core markets. You will have a demonstrable track record in the commercial aspects of rental projects, client retention and development, a true passion for lighting & rigging and strong interpersonal skills.

Trainee Technicians

We are looking for several new members to join our business to fill temporary and permanent positions within our operations team. We are interested to hear from people who either want to pursue a permanent career within an operations environment or who see time learning to prep equipment in a warehouse as invaluable experience for their future career in the production lighting and rigging industry.

Trainee Technician - 3-month temporary contract & permanent positions available.

This role works across all of our departments (Lanterns, Moving Lights, Control, Cable and Rigging). This is a great way to get to know the company and secure relationships that could lead to further employment opportunities, having had the opportunity to prove your work ethic and ability.

Freelance Opportunities

TSL use a range of freelance engineers, technicians and specialists across the business.  We are always interested to hear from self-employed independent professionals within the lighting and rigging disciplines.

We do receive a large number of enquires about freelance work, so in addition to professionals who can provide general crewing, we are specifically interested to hear from individuals with an additional specific skill.   We are always keen to hear from individuals with the following additional skills:
NRC Level 2 or Level 3 Riggers
Forklift / MEWP certificated operators
Mains / Electrical / Installation qualifications
Moving light maintenance engineer
Networking/control systems techs
Programmers/operators (MA, Avo, Chamsys, Hog)
Rope Access / IRATA certified climbers

We also have freelance opportunities for Assistant Technicians, who may be less experienced and happy to work under the supervision and direction of our general crew.  Opportunities for Assistant Technicians include both fit-ups and get outs on site and also the preparation of equipment in our warehouse.
